I’m winding up another wonderful week with the artists of the Domingo-Cafritz program at Washington National Opera. It’s a busy time at the house. While we worked on everything from Rosenkavalier to Traviata to Nozze di Figaro to Magic Flute (in a cool new English adaptation by Kelley Rourke, who’s also doing the Glimmerglass Ariadne), the company was also full into rehearsals for Jake Heggie’s marvelous opera Moby Dick. I’ll never forget the world premiere performance in Dallas. Now there are many new cast members and a new conductor – the piece is entering the second phase of its life, which is thrilling.
Tomorrow’s back to Austin and the sitzprobe for Sweeney Todd. I wonder if Maestro Kuo will let us all listen to the national anthem first? Missing the Super Bowl is harsh enough, I hope we don’t have to miss Renée…
