In the 2020-21 season, Kathleen returns to Opera Columbus for La boheme, sung in her new English adaptation, and to Victory Hall Opera for a virtual production of La Traviata. She led Gianni Schicchi and The Barber of Seville for Opera Columbus in the 2019-20 season, as well as Pagliacci with El Paso Opera. Other recent highlights include the Schwabacher Scenes Concert for the Merola Program, Carmen at Opera Columbus, Le nozze di Figaro at Wolf Trap, the Viennese rarity Arizona Lady at Arizona Opera, and Ariadne on Naxos at the Glimmerglass Festival. She led the 2014 West Coast premiere of A Coffin in Egypt at the Wallis Annenberg Center in Los Angeles. Other recent projects include Giulio Cesare in Egitto, L’heure espangole, Gianni Schicchi, Cosi fan tutte, and Dinner at Eight. A passionate advocate of new work, Kathleen has taken part in the workshops of Bright Sheng’s The Dream of the Red Chamber, Michael Schachter’s Black Clown, and Kristin Kuster’s Kept.
Kathleen was an assistant at the Metropolitan Opera from 1997–2006, specializing in works of Wagner, Strauss, and Berg. While music director of the Houston Grand Opera Studio, she conducted her own chamber music arrangement of Hansel and Gretel in a remarkable production by Basil Twist. From 2003–2008 Kathleen was also the Music Director of the Berkshire Opera, conducting two productions each summer and overseeing the young artist program.
